MINNEAPOLIS - This one wasn't pretty. The Minneapolis Maulers dismantled the No. 4 seed Honolulu Legends by a whopping score of 76-27. The 76 points scored by the Maulers was a runaway league record for points scored in a game, topping their previous record of 66 with a touchdown at the end of the third quarter. The 49-point victory tied a league record for widest margin of victory in a game and set a new record for margin of victory in a playoff game. The Honolulu franchise has been a part of the three biggest blowouts in league history. The Kailua Wyverns lost 55-6 to New York and 51-7 to Orlando, previously. At one point, the Maulers led 76-13.
Rocco Marconi was once again on a tare and passed for 9 touchdowns for third time this season. James Cooley recorded a SFL record 5 receiving touchdowns to go along with 325 yards - his third 300-yard game this season alone. Aburatsubo's 246 yard performance was his fourth-straight 200-yard receiving game. Defensively for the Maulers, the Gatlin brothers - Jeb and Billy Joe - each led the way with 7 tackles while Koma Keleka had 6 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles and the first ever punt return for a touchdown in the SFL's four seasons of play.
Honolulu managed 331 yards of offense but had less than 100 at the half. Noel Kreiss continued his up-and-down season, averaging 1.3 yards per carry - under 2.0 yards per carry for the third time this season. Cornerback Jun Fiyero recorded 3 interceptions in the game and his teammate Koyama Shigaeki returned his first interception for a touchdown in his career.
