SAN FRANCISCO - Grand Rapids capitalized on a San Francisco missed field goal and drove down the field for a game-winning kick that lifted the Rollers into a four-way tie for first place atop the SFL standings with a 2-1 record, Saturday.
Grand Rapids won the game despite only seven first downs and 298 yards of total offense but the Rollers made the big plays when they had to. Early in the third quarter, Rocco Marconi connected with former Dallas Stars receiver Donald Miller for his first touchdown as a Roller - a 57-yard connection. That TD gave Grand Rapids a 14-10 lead. After 13 straight Bulldog points, the Rollers' David Badha ran one in from 65 yards out to cut the Rollers deficit to two. Marconi finished 16/21 passing for 174 yards, 2 TD and 1 INT. Badha earned his third 100-yard game on 17 carries (125 yards, 1 TD).
San Francisco's loss dropped the team below .500 (1-2) for the first time in franchise history. The Bulldogs had to settle for three field goals and got just 60 yards on 36 carries out of running back Michael Urban. James Cooley added another touchdown to his career total on 8 grabs for 183 yards.
