NEW YORK CITY - The SFL Championship Game was the last game played in New York City under owner Erik Barkley.

Barkley announced Wednesday that the Knights would be moving back to their roots in Buffalo, where Barkley last owner the Queen City Corsairs.

The team will continue to operate under the name New York Knights and will sport the same identity.

“I’d like to thank the city of New York for welcoming us for the past two seasons,” Barkley said. “We are excited to get back to our roots in southwestern New York. The fans in southwest New York, and Buffalo specifically, may be the greatest football fans on earth. When the WAFL (and Queen City Corsairs) folded it was a really tough decision to start the SFL franchise in New York City, although we were welcomed, we honestly missed the Buffalo area. We can’t wait to return to where it all started.”

Barkley said construction has begun on a new stadium in Buffalo, but the Knights may have to play their home games in a temporary home while their new stadium is completed.
