Two struggling teams made a deal late Wednesday night that will either help or hinder late efforts to get into the playoff conversation.

The Dallas Stars have traded for wide receiver Freeman Goodspeed, who was traded in the off-season to San Francisco and in turn hands cornerback Andrew Ball - who has been with Dallas his entire career - to San Francisco. Both players are in their final year of contract. Goodspeed's contract is for $2.075 million while Ball's is for $2.025 million, allowing the Bulldogs to free up $50,000 in cap space. Dallas' available cap drops to $125,000.

"The Dallas Stars Welcome Mr. Goodspeed to our organization," said Dallas Stars owner Ronnie Nickens. "We hope he can help us save our season. Andrew Ball was a class act we will miss him very much and we wish to thank him for all he did for us on the defensive side of the ball . We had to make this move I belive it will make us move explosive on the offensive side of the ball."

The league approved the deal Wednesday evening.

Goodspeed is No. 1 all-time in the league in receptions (199) and targets (286) and No. 2 all-time in receiving yards (2,710) and touchdowns (23). He'll join a loaded receiving core that includes silver star receiver Scott King and bronze star Cesar Cannon. Cannon, who played tight end in Oklahoma City, will move to the slot. It is unknown whether or not Goodspeed will be listed as No. 1 or No. 2 on the depth chart moving forward.

Ball had 16 tackles in four games with Dallas this season, has more sacks all-time than any other cornerback (6) and has eight career interceptions. San Francisco's offense will now once again only have James Cooley at the wide receiver position. Goodspeed and Redfeather are seperated for the first time in their SFL careers. Dallas' defense is left with only a free safety star in the secondary.
