OKLAHOMA CITY — The Dallas Stars came to life in the second half, but the Pete Bruschi show once again dug too deep of a hole for Dallas to climb out of, as the Stars are now nearly eliminated from playoff contention with a 37-24 loss to the Renegades - OKC's first home win of the season.
Dallas would need to win out (to get to 3-5) while Orlando would have to lose out (to fall to 3-5) and the Rollers would only be able to win over Orlando (to finish 3-5) to give Dallas a chance in the point differential tiebreaker (as all teams would be 1-1 against each other), a tiebreaker Dallas is currently losing by nearly 100 points.
For the first time, Oklahoma City swept the Southwest Shootout with a powerful rushing attack from Pete Bruschi, who racked up 244 yards on 37 carries for four touchdowns. D.J. Greenwood and Tank Savage had interceptions for the Renegades - Savage now leads the league with five. OKC was +3 in the turnover battle and scored 14 points off of Dallas mistakes, including a fumble on a punt return in the second half.
Dallas for the second straight week got down by double digits early and fell short. Oklahoma City had a 21-3 lead in the second quarter before Dallas woke up, in the end outgaining OKC offensively. Johnny English had 110 yards on 22 carries - the most carries he's had in a game this season. Freeman Goodspeed in his first game as a star had just 4 grabs but for 84 yards.
