KAILUA — Not many players have been more dissapointing since the SFL began than Ohno Matsumoto. But on Tuesday afternoon in Hawaii, Matsumoto delivered - a career-high 145.5 quarterback rating (the second highest in league history by any quarterback) - and helped the Wyverns keep their season alive with a 33-24 win over winless Dallas, who dropped to 0-7, the worst record in league history.
Matsumoto's previous career high was 128.7 - the first game of the Winter 2014 season against the Stars. It was only the third time he went a game without throwing an interception and his 384 passing yards was third-best all-time for the Kailua signal-caller. 298 of those yards were Yuya Aiba's and Lawrence Kirkland's, who combined for three scores on the day. Aiba and Kirkland both had a season high in yards (170 and 128, respectively). Nathaniel Graison and Sebastian Brock each had 5 tackles to lead the defense.
Dallas' defensive struggles continue and their trade mid-season for another offensive weapon has left the defense depleted and out of snyc - only A.J. Ahanotu and Larry Henderson remain from the original defense from last summer. Thomas Ranklins recorded his first game without an interception since last summer and Johnny English once again got 25 carries but it wasn't enough - the defense gave up 400+ yards of offense for the fifth time this campaign. Freeman Goodspeed caught his first touchdown pass as a Star in the loss.
