KAILUA — Who would have ever thought that a year later these two signal callers would be going up against each other in the SFL Championship Game, playing for two totally different teams? It's a match up unlike any other, as former New York Knight quarterback Joseph Redfeather will battle former Oklahoma City Renegade general Wes St. Clair Monday night.
For St. Clair, this game is just about winning. He reached the championship the last two seasons with OKC, but when they deemed St. Clair more trouble than he was worth, New York scooped him up in free agency, following their trade of Redfeather. St. Clair will try to become the first player in league history to lose in the championship game three straight years.
"I don't know what else to say but that this season, I truly deserve to be here," St. Clair said. "I won't lie, I struggled in Oklahoma City, I didn't have good seasons there and I wasn't supported either. New York has turned my life around. This game means the world to me. Redfeather's already got one. Now, I want mine."
Redfeather defeated St. Clair in last summer's Championship Game 45-41, ripping victory away from St. Clair after the Renegade QB fired a touchdown strike to go up 41-38 with less than two minutes to play. This game could also come down to whoever has the ball last.
"We lost to him earlier this year, he tore our defense up," Redfeather said. "They didn't like that too much and I didn't like our offense sitting on the sideline while he carved us up. I want to be the greatest to ever play in this league. To be that, you've got to win titles and that's what I'm here to do."
Redfeather and St. Clair are middle of the pack, historically but make up 2/3 of the starting quarterbacks in league title history. Redfeather could become the first player to cross the 9,000 yard passing mark with 251 yards Monday night. St. Clair's 72% completion rating is best all-time, as he's turned into Mr. Effeciency. Between the two QB's, 101 touchdowns have been thrown - 7 combined from last summer's championship game.
Expect more to be thrown Monday night. The SFL Championship Game. Only on the SFL Network on Twitch.
