ORLANDO — The Simulation Football League's exclusive period began yesterday with a bang, as Orlando shelled out a lot of money to bring most of the team who finished 6-2 last season back. Most of the team.
Quarterback Kevin Walker - the highest-valued quarterback accourding to league market value metrics - will not be extended or franchise tagged by Orlando and will instead enter free agency for the first time, after spending his first three seasons with the Intimidators.
Orlando re-signed linebacker Steven Lambert to a 3-season, $12 million gold contract extension after his record-breaking season (87 tackles) this past summer. The Intimidators also re-signed running back Zach Parker to a 3-season, $9 million gold extension. Kicker Franklin Reese was franchise tagged by the team, paying him $2 million for 1 season.
With Orlando's cap dwindled down to 8.5 million, the team will persue other quarterback options in free agency, which could include bringing Walker back at a lower cost to the team.
