SAN ANTONIO - With two of the best wide receivers in league history, Scott King and Freeman Goodspeed, most thought the Cleveland Vipers would turn their attention to some different needs. But on Tuesday, Cleveland shockingly matched New York's 2-year, $3.2 million offer for Cannon, returning him to the team, and then turned around and offered Honolulu's Yuya Aiba - this off-season's biggest WR name in free agency - in hopes of bringing a four wide receiver set to Ohio, along with gold halfback Johnny English and gold quarterback Kaleb Wright.
This development hurts teams in need of a receiver, namely Oklahoma City and Honolulu, who have not begun their search to fill that void just yet.
The Renegades, meanwhile, are caught in a bidding war for Joseph Redfeather and Wednesday morning, Redfeather announced he was closer to making a decision after Tuesday's negotations.
"I was impressed with OKC's efforts yesterday," Redfeather said. "And I was dissapointed in San Francisco's. Very. We'll see what comes out of today."
Minneapolis offered a second receiver - Donald Miller - who could be a big-man compliment to Ayanojyo Aburatsubo on the opposite side of the field. The Maulers are making it clear to Rocco Marconi - who was just signed to an extension and one of only two current gold-star quarterbacks in the league - that they intend to give him more tools than he's had in previous years.
Honolulu went after Larry Henderson and not Leeteuk Eunhyuk, which is a bit of a surprise. Eunhyuk had the better season last year, but Henderson has had a more consistant career and is the biggest man the SFL has ever seen.
Orlando, in a perplexing move, did not make any decision on their quarterback situation as Walker continues with discussions with Honolulu.
Baltimore offered Eddie Gauge as expected. Now the only question is: Will another team come knocking before the Crabs wrap up a new deal?
With Cannon out of the picture, New York is now going after receiver Nathan Chambers, who didn't play a snap last season despite carrying 2.4 and 1.4 market-value evaluations into each of the last two off-seasons.
