HONOLULU - The Honolulu Legends got off to a grand start Saturday afternoon in the SFL's first preseason game of the Winter 15 season. In fact, hot start might be an understatement. Honolulu rode a 31-0 halftime lead to a 40-26 victory over Cleveland. They scored on the first play from scrimmage - a 73-yard touchdown strike to Lawrence Kirkland, who finished with 9 receptions for 246 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Kevin Walker, in his first game not under center for Orlando, completed 20 of his 29 passes for 363 yards and 3 scores - all to Kirkland. The Legends averaged 12.5 yards per pass attempt.
Cleveland, meanwhile, struggled to find rhythm in the first half. They had 97 total yards of offense through three quarters and rookie quarterback Kaleb Wright threw four interceptions to four different defenders in the game, including a one-handed leaping INT by Honolulu rookie corner Jun Fiyero. The bright spots for Cleveland wwere Johnny English and Chieck Kongo, who finished with 152 yards, 1 touchdown and 5 tackles, 2 sacks, respectively.
