SAN FRANCISCO - It's only preseason, it's not a playoff victory, but Minneapolis owner Thomas Paterniti only needed one game to get revenge on San Francisco owner Daley Holder for ousting him in last year's playoffs when Paterniti was the head coach in Baltimore. Paterniti used former Bulldog receiver James Cooley and a handful of other weapons to shred the Bulldogs Monday night, 48-10 on their home field.
Rocco Marconi became the first quarterback to have a perfect quarterback rating in the preseason, in his first game in Paterniti's system. Marconi was 34/39 passing for 522 yards and six touchdowns, with no interceptions. The Mauler offensive line kept Marconi upright the entire night and limited Jordan Gray and Summer 14 MVP Randall Watts' impact significantly. Cooley had four of Marconi's six scores and 238 yards total on 10 grabs. Ayanojyo Aburatsubo recorded 143 yards and a score on eight receptions.
San Francisco's only bright spot was rookie running back Keanu Tuiasosopo, who in his first game, scored San Francisco's only touchdown - a phenominal 81-yard run after fumbling the play before (offense recovered). Bad news for the Bulldogs was he only had 53 yards on his other 24 carries. The defense, the foundation of last year's success, gave up a shocking 631 yards of offense, including 104 yards to non-star Minneapolis running backs.
