ARRINGTON REUNITED WITH NICKENS IN TRADE

SAN ANTONIO - The Cleveland Vipers and San Francisco Bulldogs each gained more balance Wednesday when the league office approved a trade agreed upon by both sides that will send bronze wide receiver Cesar Cannon to San Francisco in exchange for bronze strong safety Ahmad Arrington.

The move reunites Arrington with owner Ronnie Nickens. Arrington had a banner year last winter while playing for the Dallas Stars, leading the league in interceptions with 9 as a bronze star. He was not resigned due to his high asking price in free agency and Nickens unwilling to pull out the checkbook. Arrington is on a 1-year, $3.2 million deal, the second year of his contract he signed as a free agent with San Francisco that same off-season. Arrington will lead a Viper secondary that was torched at a record pace last week. The Vipers have the week off before facing Orlando on the road.

Nickens said in an e-mail sent to the league office that he meant to transition Cannon back to tight end in the off-season - his original position in Oklahoma City - but that the move fell through the cracks of the off-season process.

Cannon will now give Hart a fourth option for a Bulldog offense that is on pace to be the league's worse for the second straight season, a trend the Bulldogs quickly want to turn around. His role in Dallas/Cleveland diminshed when Freeman Goodspeed came to town, a trade the two owners made last season which sent Andrew Ball to San Francisco. Cannon is under a 2-year, $3.2 million contract, so neither team's salary cap was affected by the move.

San Francisco will face New York on the road Monday night. The Bulldogs now have three original, S13 tight ends as their receiving core. Offensive coordinator Colin Northrup was pleased of the move, saying "more pieces to work with are better than less."
