CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Vipers came three yards away from spoiling the Honolulu Legends postsason hopes. Fortunetly for Honolulu, they had Larry Henderson on their side. The gold star defensive tackle - who leads the league's in sacks now with 6.5 - made the play on quarterback Kaleb Wright to preserve a 13-9 ugly victory, improving the Legends to 3-4, forcing a winner-take-all scenario against San Francisco in the two teams' last game.
Honolulu won despite just 11 first downs and 35 rushing yards. Lawrence Kirkland was the lone bright spot, catching 7 balls for 167 yards and a 80-yard touchdown in the first half - the only touchdown of the game. Gold cornerback Jun Fiyero recorded a team-high six tackles and knocked down a career high 5 passes.
Cleveland's rough season ends with a 1-7 record. Wright averaged only 4.1 yards per pass attempt and Johnny English was held to under 100 rushing yards again (98). Scott King had a mere 3 receptions for 34 yards, on 10 targets. Cameron Brantley continued his stellar season for a defense that played well on this night. He had 11 tackles, 2 for a loss.
